Dear friends,

We are all 11 and 12 years old and we are very excited to be taking part in Eurodance 2012. We would like to present you our students performing a traditional Polish dance called “Oberek”. This dance consists of many lifts and jumps and it is danced by couples who are placed on a circle and rotate both around the whole circle and around their own axis (to the right). We have really enjoyed practicing and filming our dance. We danced “Oberek” during our school festivities in June 2012. We hope you are going to enjoy watching our kids dancing :). Good luck to all of you! Greetings from Chalin in Poland.

Lithuanian folk dance "Pupos" ("Beans")

The dance is created according to Lithuanian folk tale "A Bean" and  Lithuanian folk song "An Old Man was angry and scolded the children ...".
This is a playful children's dance  with simple shapes. The movements illustrate the text of the song: planting, watering, growing the bean, and the boys are playing the angry elderly, who chastise the children for picking beans.

Introducing Spetalen School from Norway

Introducing Spetalen school from Norway
Here is the Norwegian entry. We are pupils from 7th grade, and are going to dance a Norwegian traditional folk dance, called reinlender. Reinlender is the most common pair dance within “gammaldans” (which translates to "old dance"), a small set of nordic dances that became broadly popular in the late 19th century.
This year students from the teaching education have come to teach us the dance. We danced and filmed just a few days ago, at a beautiful place called Saltholmen. We had a fantastic day out in the sun, dancing in our national costumes.
We are glad to present our Norwegian dance in the Eurodance project 2012, and we look forward to see the different dances from our partner schools all over Europe.

Project Overview

Our project idea is called Eurodance 2012! We are looking for schools from across Europe to join our pupils in performing and recording one dance which is associated with their country. Participation will be limited to a maximum of two schools from each country.

The project will officially begin on Monday 19th March 2012. Each school should introduce themselves to the other contestants by posting details of their school/class on the blog (http://eurodance20-12.blogspot.com) by Friday 20th April 2012. This could be a short video, pictures or information typed into the blog. Each school should also include details of their chosen dance.

Each school should then practise their dance and film their final performance. This video should be uploaded to the blog by Friday 15th June 2012. All schools should then watch the completed performances and score each school out of 10, except their own, on the online voting system by Friday 22nd June 2012. The scores will be added together and the winner posted on the blog. The winning school will be rewarded with a trophy! All schools will receive a certificate for taking part.

This project follows on from Eurodance2010! and Eurodance 2011! You can see these projects at http://eurodance2010.blogspot.com and http://eurodance2011.blogspot.com
